Taylor Root UK Trustee network: An interview with Luisa Edwards, Comcast Corporation
As part of our interview series for our Trustee Network, Taylor Root Partner, Sarah Ingwersen recently spoke to Luisa Edwards, SVP and Deputy General Counsel and Comcast Corporation about being a Trustee for the National Literacy Trust.
What does your Trustee organisation do?
The National Literacy Trust are a national charity that empowers people with the literacy skills they need to succeed in life – helping people change their stories. You can learn more about the National Literacy Trust on their website.
Why were you interest in becoming a Trustee?
My passion for literacy and its importance as a driver of social mobility has made serving as a Trustee a real privilege. The charity is run with dedication and skill at a truly national level and as a group of trustees we are deeply engaged in oversight but also strategy.
What are the benefits can a General Counsel bring to the Trustee role?
There are some real benefits to a General Counsel becoming a trustee. We are ideally placed to navigate organisations and the challenges they face as well as advising and exercising appropriate oversight. In particular, our comfort with regulatory, organisational and, to a degree, financial complexity can help support good choices and stewardship.
