Legal Operations: How can General Counsels transform their legal teams?
On Wednesday 26 June 2021 Taylor Root UK hosted a webinar on Legal Operations for General Counsel and Legal Operations professionals. ‚Legal Operations’ is not a new concept but is gaining widespread popularity within the UK legal market, having originated in the US in-house legal market where there are over 3000 legal operations professionals. The function provides a broad range of support to in-house legal teams and encompasses strategic planning, people, processes and efficiencies, technology investment and project management.
We gathered a team of Legal Operations experts to shed some light on the function; how it can add value to a legal team and provide much-needed administrative and strategic support to a General Counsel. The webinar began with an overview from the Legal Operations Transformation team at KPMG on what legal operations is, followed by a Q&A with our panellists.
Facilitated by Sarah Ingwersen (Partner, Global Head of In-house) and Georgia Morgan-Wynne (Group Manager, Corporates & Commercial), the panel discussed;
- What is Legal Operations and what does it encompass?
- Why do General Counsels need a legal operations function? What value does it offer?
- What background do legal operations professionals typically have?
- What cultural challenges and impact could a dedicated legal ops resource present for in-house legal teams?
- How do you create a business case for a dedicated legal operations resource?
