Lead Corporate Legal consultant – Disposals/Sale
A great opportunity for a Ex partner of reputable law firm or a General Counsel with Corporate legal training and background to step in-house as lead corporate lawyer on upcoming project work.
Our client requires a highly experience corporate lawyer to join the business for an estimated period of 18 months due to business rationalisation project and a number of planned sale and disposal activities in 2025 and beyond.
This is a high priority project for our client and will incolve leading corporate transactions. Having the ability to lead and manage external counsel and timelines is required.
There are currently plans to wind down and sell off various business units and plans to restructure and reposition the business to focus on more profitable business areas and units. Expereince with general commercial matters would also be of interest as there is also an opportunity to take on cotracts work to support wider commercial activities.
There are no opther solicitors present within the business. But they do have a company secretary so this area is sufficiently covered.
The goal of this corporate activity is to:
a) reduce cost and increase profitability
b) Improve cash efficiency and eliminate dependency on bank facilities – achieved through the sale of various engineering businesses
c) strategic repositioning of the business to focus on more profitable and growing areas of their business portfolio
The succesful candidate:
- Must have a strong and long standing background in corporate law – specifically strong experience in disposals and sale of businesses and repositioning of businesses to aid commercial profitability.
- Must have experience or good grounding private practice (top regional or international law firm ideally) ad proven experience in the above matters
- Can also be a General Counsel currently working in house or Lead corporate lawyer with at least 10 years PQE
- Must be collaborative and a team player
- Ability to liase and lead and manage external law firms who will be supporting with this corporate activity
- Good commercial accumen and ideally some experience in commercial contracts to advice on contracts where appropriate
- Be a clear communicator and able to manage expectations and prioritise and advise with confidence but overall able to facilitate commercial and strategic goals and work with the business to deliver timely solutions and updates on progress
Location: Able to travel to the Cambridge area 1-2 times a week – Meetings with the chairman and the shareholderrs will be key
Reporting lines: Chairman
Day rate: Highly competative in the market (ability to work outside IR35 via Limited Company – project based)
Please note that the day rate advertised is to be used as a guide and rates offered will come down to the level of expereinece in the areas of focus and PQE level.
Start date: ASAP – However, this role will require UK security clearance which can take 4-8 weeks to complete. This also means candidates must have lived in the UK the last 5 years.
Duration: This is a contract of approximately 18 months
Number of days a week: 3-5 days a week (most likely full time)
